"Bertha's Cottage" was purchased in 2004 by the previous owners, Maree and Wayne Moore, when it was in a derelict condition. Vacant since 1979, the garden was overgrown with agapanthus, cacti and fishbone fern, and the house itself was very run down. Maree and Wayne brought it back to life to the thriving and pretty garden and beautiful cottage that it is today.
The name 'Bertha's Cottage' comes from the original tenant, Bertha Brown, who lived in the cottage from 1924 until her death in 1979. Discovered remnants of her life have been found in small relics left behind. She existed when life was not easy for a woman on her own and she was a real pioneer of our past, and well worth remembering.
Upon my family's purchase of the land this year, in the pursuit of the quieter life out of the city, I have been tasked with taking over the cottage and all that comes with it. This is a new endeavour for me, and I am quite excited.
I look forward to welcoming you to enjoy Bertha's Cottage and the surrounds.
